week 5

WAI MAORI'S FISH TANK

The learners in Wai Maori are still making connections to their last term's big idea of 'sustainability'. During iExplore this week, all the learners were actively engaged in the 'Rainbow Fish' story. After unpacking the message behind the story with the learners, we decided to create a Wai Maori fish tank. Throughout the week, we discussed and identified the needs of a healthy fish tank and the types of sea creatures living in it.

During iExplore this week, Wai Maori had a boat competition. The learners used various materials around habitat to create their design. The judges were looking for 3 different types of boats; biggest, fastest and colourful.

I made a colour boat with these fun stencils.

"My colourful boat has a special windmill."

We collaborated together
 and made a submarine boat!

"This is my canoe boat!"

I made an origami boat
and it floats too!!

Our Education Outside the Classroom

We had such an amazing time at Kelly's Tarlton. We have learned a lot of things about Global Warming, Over fishing, Pollution in the ocean. Look at all the amazing things we discovered, shared, learned and enjoyed.

The purpose of our trip is to learn more about Antarctica and what is causing the ice to melt and how the penguins are affected by global climate change....

Sustainability

Taking Action:

The week for iExplore we learnt about the types of rubbish we have at Ormiston Primary School. We decided our next step was to create our own rubbish bin, so we could sort the rubbish out in Ormiston Primary School.

We are looking for the specific rubbish for our bins around the playground.

Our bin is full with straws!
This rubbish bin is only for paper.
Look, I found a juice box.

This is our plastic bin!

This plastic container belongs in the
plastic bin.
